Macintosh Beauties
Recently, I found out that my oil painting Macintosh Beauties was selected as a finalist in the International Artist Magazine "Still Life Competition #121." I almost missed getting in because I didn't see the email asking me to submit a high-definition photo of it. (At the time I had just returned from having eye surgery.) This was perhaps the highlight of my art career so far--though I think the very best compliment I've ever received was when my older son once told me that he and his wife would be happy to have any of the paintings I wished to give them. Of course, I know he would rather have a boat painting than a still life--but it was so nice to hear him say it. To top it off, my husband has even let me take over the dining room as my studio! My family and friends have been some of my most ardent supporters and I don't know how I would have done it without their encouragement. I can also usually rely on them to be biased--ha, ha!
Hope you will check out my entry in the magazine itself. Art magazines are not usually sold in grocery stores, but many book stores carry them. What really amazes me is to have my entry in the same magazine as one of my online instructors, Kelli Folsom. I did not expect this so it was an added bonus. Kelli is an amazing teacher and though I wasn't able to finish the course (due to my surgery), I know I'll probably return to learn some more from her. From when I began in 2013 to now, I have had the honor to take courses from some amazing people and I know I have so much more to learn. That's one of the greatest things about art, you can keep learning forever.
